Thyroid Symptoms – 8 Home Remedies For Joint Pain


Aching joints can interfere in our lives at any age, and certainly, as a symptom of thyroid dysfunction, it’s “just one more thing” that exhausts, frustrates and keeps us from enjoying life.

Joint and muscle pain accompany certain food allergies, weight gain, a sedentary lifestyle or the opposite, doing too much too hard – as in sports. Aching joints are among the most common health complaints and we experience them for many reasons.


The bad news is, again, that one of the myriad of symptoms when you have a thyroid condition is joint pain. It can be from a piggy-back fibromyalgia autoimmune condition, affecting your entire body all the time, or daily joint and muscle pain due to inflammation.

The good news is, there are solutions and this list of remedies require very little effort, and yield great results.

Here are some easy to administer remedies to help ease your pain.

1. Feast On Carrots

Did you know that carrots have been used for centuries in Chinese medicine as an effective remedy for aching joints? Highly nutritious, simply grate a carrot in a bowl, and squeeze some lemon juice on it. Enjoy raw or steamed. Carrot nurtures the ligaments, bringing relief from pain.  food - a carrot

Also, try one teaspoon full daily of fresh carrot juice and lemon juice is helpful.

2. Eat More Onions

Onions are a famous anti-inflammatory food. They contain phytochemicals that improve your immune system. The sulfur compounds in onions inhibit the enzymes that trigger pain. A study establishes that fresh onions have an analgesic effect similar to that of morphine.

Garlic is a great healer of many things, including joint pain. If you don’t eat enough of it, raw or in foods, try garlic pills and tablets available from many natural food and vitamin stores. Be sure to buy a deodorized variety or take them on a full stomach to keep from developing garlic breath.

4. Enjoy More Bananas

Among fruits, bananas are known for their “joint greasing” properties. I drink my bananas in my protein smoothies.

5. Increase Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Whether in the form of fresh fish, capsules or liquid, your body needs Omega-3s to function at its best and to heal. 3 - fish

6. Drink More Water

One of the many benefits of drinking more water is that it softens cartilage and keeps it hydrated. Water helps you maintain an adequate blood volume so that nutrients can move through your blood and into your joints. It also moves waste away from your joints, making them less likely to ache.

7. Massage The Point

A massage is great from someone else of course, but you can massage your own joints anytime for immediate relief.

A gentle massage with warm oil eases inflammation, improves circulation and relaxes your muscles. As a result, your joints feel better, too. A tried-and-tested home remedy for knee pain in our household is to heat two tablespoons of mustard oil, along with a whole clove of garlic (which is also known for its inflammation-fighting properties). When the oil is still hot, but safe to the touch, start massaging your aching knees with it. It brings immediate relief.

8. Try A Yoga Pose

For aching elbows, bhujangasana or the Cobra pose works well. This pose helps stretch out your aching elbows, and also opens up stiff muscles in the shoulders and back.

If your knees hurt, weight-bearing exercises can make things worse. Gentle yoga and stretching exercises can come to your rescue.

If you’re not limber enough to do the Cobra pose, or your body hurts too much, just do slow stretching in as many positions as you can to loosen, lubricate and oxygenate muscles and joints.
