More than 30,000,000 people in the US and 200 million worldwide have a Thyroid Disorder Most affected are women. Some estimates are over 50 million in US and over 200 million worldwide, and growing.

Estimates vary widely as most patients are misdiagnosed or undiagnosed because doctors don't know what they are looking for.

Thyroid disease is also an autoimmune disease. This means that over 27 million people have one or more of the over 105 known autoimmune diseases.

Thyroid Health and Fluoride – Just Say “NO” to Fluoride

Every day, still, in many countries including the U.S., Australia, New Zealand and Ireland have fluoride in their water. Over 60 percent of the United States’ water supply is fluoridated. Most of those cities are in the eastern part of the U.S.. These countries need to get into the 21st century and for better health regulations for their people.

Fluoride is an element from the halogen group, as are iodide and chloride. It is commonly added to the water supply as hydrofluosilicic acid, silicofluoride or sodium fluoride.

We’ve heard it forever: Fluoride is good for…

  1. Strengthening and protecting your teeth! It’s in your toothpaste too, and
  2. Strengthening your bones.

The sad truth is, that these two reasons, or “scientific” facts are not true at all!

  • Fluoride does NOT strengthen–or in any way protect–teeth. In fact, fluoride has caused nearly half of our babies and pre-teen children have weak, mottled, streaked teeth. Dentists practicing in fluoridated water areas make a lot more money than those laboring in unfluoridated areas. A lot more.
  • And fluoride doesn’t strengthen our bones, either. Again, the truth is just the opposite. Fluoride “eats” our bones. If you live in a fluoridated water area and get a diagnosis of arthritis (either kind), think fluoride.

Bottom line:  fluoride is toxic and a danger to our health. Not only does it hurt our teeth and bones, Dr. Phyllis Mullenix believes, based on her research, that fluoride acts in a way that lowers the I.Q. of children (“Neurotoxicity of Sodium Fluoride in Rats”, Mullenix, P. Neurotoxicology and Teratology, 17 (2), 1995).

Due to – now questionable – scientific studies, fluoridating water began in 1945. About the same time the incidence of autoimmune diseases, like thyroid conditions – Hashimoto’s Disease and Graves Disease –  took off significantly.

  • Fluoride creates great damage and chaos to your endocrine system.
  • The hypothalamus, king of our endocrine system AND nervous system, takes a big hit so it can’t function correctly.
  • The pituitary gland can’t put together enough TSH to keep our thyroid humming.
  • Fluoride causes the thyroid to reject most of the TSH it does get.
  • Fluoride causes the thyroid to block the benefits from the TSH it does get by depressing thyroid function.
  • Fluoride rushes into the pineal gland, turning it into concrete.  The pineal’s job is to put out melatonin–the better to help us sleep.
  • Depleting the pineal means the thymus–home to our immune system is deminished.

Fluoride attacks every part of the body.

  • Fluoride increases infertility rates, the odds of having a Down’s Syndrome baby, and worsens the symptoms of autism.
  • Fluoride causes diabetes.
  • Fluoride is mutagenic – it encourages normal cells to mutate into cancer cells.
  • The digestive system, which is already a trouble spot for prople with endocrine problems, is a big target.
  • Esophageal cancer rates are 72% higher in areas with fluoridated water.
  • Stomach cancer goes up by 45%.
  • Cancer of the large intestine increases by 40%.
  • Rectal cancer soars by 80%.
  • Sodium fluoride is industrial waste created, mostly, by aluminum and fertilizer processing. It doesn’t get purified in any way, so it brings along aluminum–which heads straight for the brain. These factors point to Alzheimers.

  • in tapwater
  • in most bottled water
  • toothpaste
  • mouth wash
  • many medicines
  • it’s added to Coca Cola and Nestle’s bottled water
  • it’s added to juices reconstituted with fluoridated water (you won’ t read that on the label).
  • in residue from fluoride-based pesticides – in grapes, wine, beer, etc.
  • bathing or showering in fluoridated water obsorbs it right into our bodies

To help you thyroid stay healthy, just say “no” to fluoride. If your dentist thinks fluoride’s a must, change dentists.

Use fluoride free, natural toothpastes. Here are a few of the healthy, no-additives brands.

Thanks Kim! That’s very helpful! I am wondering if you have any good water filter to recommend? I am especially looking for something small and does need to be incorprated into the water system as I am living in a rental apartment.

      Hi Flora,

I don’t have any specific water filter recommendations. But, Brita and Pure and those are the basics and have systems for apartments. Or, of course just go online and research and see what makes sense for your budget and space needs.

      Happy happy water!
