Hypothyroidism is the underproduction or a lack of sufficient hormone production from the thyroid gland and can have severe consequences.
In children, the underactive production can lead to stunted growth as well as create learning disabilities and upset the emotional balance.
In adults, symptoms range from becoming easily agitated, nervous and anxious to overwhelming fatigue, sleep deprivation, weight fluctuations, depression and extreme mood swings.
